Concept
The installation by the art collective "oxymoron" focuses on the concept of contradiction, presenting two parallel universes that are seemingly similar but diametrically opposed. The viewer, positioned between the two projections, experiences a binary visual encounter, confronted with two versions of the same world. One bears the signs of decay and instability, while the other reflects a peaceful and harmonious reality.
The installation draws inspiration from the oxymoronic nature of existence and incorporates elements of symbolism and sociopolitical commentary. Slavoj Žižek, interpreting Hegel, refers to “contradictory identity,” where the essence of an object embodies its negation. In "Oxymoron," the opposition is developed across two visual fields, raising questions about the essence of reality, subjective interpretation, and the fragile balance of opposites, while also reflecting on the sociopolitical implications that shape our perceptions of these contrasting realities.
